Role overview

To manage the strategic development, implementation and successful delivery of the Secure livelihoods Programme, supporting all of VSO’s work in- country as required by the Country Director in order to optimize the VSO Tanzania contribution towards reducing poverty.


Skills, qualifications and experience required

You will have strong understanding of the economic and development context of Tanzania, excellent Program management skills, track record of program delivery. 
Excellent understanding of project cycle management tools to ensure effective planning, resourcing, implementation and review of programs and experience of organizational assessment, planning and review tools and processes. 

Practical experience of applying development issues at a project or community level. Able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of development issues. Experience and knowledge of the relevant program area. 


Proven experience of securing external funding and grants, including proposal and report writing. Evidence of understanding the challenges of donor and contract management and the implications for program management. 


Leadership and people management skills, experience of developing, coaching and managing high performing teams 


Experience of the financial management of budgets, including building a budget, monitoring and managing expenditure. Previous experience of having compiled financial reports 


Able to develop multiple ideas to solve an issue or situation and take a swift decision, including in a high risk situation. 


Able to adapt to new and demanding situations, with experience of living and working in developing countries. 


Competent Data usage: including speedy collation and analysis of complex and high volume data, using appropriate Information Technology packages where necessary. 


Able to travel and work long hours, including work away from the home base for up to 30% of time, both within the country and occasionally internationally. 



The persons we are looking for will be qualified to degree level and have at least 5 years of experience.

Role overview

The candidate will provide support to the finance department for smooth running of VSO Tanzania Country Office.

Skills, qualifications and experience required

The Candidate should have: 
• Technical Accounting Expertise –Minimum (Bachelors) degree in Accounting, Finance or related degree. 
• Good technical accounting skills. Experience book keeping practice and principle, knowledge of internal controls, general ledger, cash management and reconciliations. 
Experience of financial reporting, measurement and analysis. 
• Experience of rules and regulations for non-profit organizations. 
• Knowledge of donor rule, regulations, grant funding policies, financial reporting, finance and procurement procedures , proven ability to develop and monitor program budgets, donor relation and compliance. 
• Financial and Information Technology Systems – Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel particularly. 
• Over 2 years work experience in the NGO and accounting experience. 
• Planning and Time Management – Able to prioritize tasks, manage time and tight schedules, work effectively under pressure, meeting deadlines. 
• Strong interpersonal skills 
• Fluent in spoken and written English. 
• Excellent team work

About Project 

Tanzania Local Enterprise Development Project (T-LED), support 1760 Small Medium Entrepreneurs (SME’s) through targeted tier 1 support to 160 growth oriented local SMEs to increase employment and incomes through the securing of contracts associated with foreign investments in the mining, gas and agricultural sectors and tier 2 support to 1600 local SMEs to access associate supply chains. 

The 5-year T-LED Project aims to create 2,500 jobs by supporting small businesses to access new markets. 


Funded by Global Affairs Canada, the project helps local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to overcome existing barriers. Training and coaching in business, marketing, and finance is offered to SMEs across the four target regions. 

The project will be managed and implemented by Cuso International in partnership with VSO in Tanzania in four regions of Tanzania: Mtwara and Lindi in the South (gas sector), the Lake Victoria zone surrounding Mwanza in the North (mining sector) and Iringa in the center (agriculture).


Role overview

Leads strategic direction, development and delivery of the Tanzania Local Enterprise Development Services.

Skills, qualifications and experience required - A degree in business, business administration or Engineering. 

- 10 years Project Management experience in a service delivery environment. 
- Training/training development experience 
- Strategic planning/development knowledge 

Experienced in managing diverse groups of multi-national workers in multiple locations.


Allowance and accommodation 


All volunteers have an allowance paid in local currency. The allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home. 


VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.
